My Philosophy

As a classically trained painter, capturing the essence of my subject comes naturally. As your personal wedding artist, capturing the nostalgia of your biggest moment ever is a personal thrill. As a classic extrovert, I’ve found that creating art in an exuberant and celebratory atmosphere brings out the best of my craft.

My (very long) name is a testament to my divergent familial backgrounds, and is the foundation of who I am.
Newman, my American father’s name, reflects the realm of modernity, the digital age where open-minded values and cross-cultural exchanges are celebrated. The Newmans are inherently warm, inviting, and inclusive, having never met a stranger.
Couceiro da Costa, from my mother’s side, is an antiquated Portuguese family name which reflects upon the tradition of old world European charm. From old estates to multi-generational family trees, I credit my enthusiasm for romance and the arts with my extensive time spent in Portugal.
Classical Training in Life Painting
What might set me apart the most from most wedding painters is that I am first and foremost a painter rooted in realism.
Having trained in ateliers across the world, including the Florence Academy of Art in Italy and The Atelier De Arte Realista Do Porto in Portugal, I am deeply passionate about craft, and imbue this love for technique in every piece I make.
My interest in nature led me to dragging my travel easel across the world, practicing landscapes across all backdrops, but what drew me to weddings specifically is the movement, fabrics, lush florals, variety in scenery, and the fusion of live painting and posed figure reference.
Gallery Experience
Beyond wedding painting, I am an artist who also develops and shows my own body of work.
I have shown in galleries internationally including the US, London, and South Korea, and have won awards in both the US and London. First exhibiting in 2022, I am continuously growing my professional gallery CV. My professional work centers around the experience of womanhood, feminism, and relationships, which absolutely attracted me to wedding painting. On top of showing in galleries, I have also worked in galleries and for arts organizations, giving me a fuller picture of the greater art world.
This gallery experience helps me stay current on what the industry standard materials, techniques, and practices are that all help me become a better professional artist.
Performing Arts
Thoruought my life, the performing arts has been my jam. Performing on stage in musicals, solo voice recitals, acapella concerts, acting in films, and playing in instrumental groups stole my heart just as painting did.
This all helped develop my bubbly personality, helped me be comfortable in front of crowds, and now ultimately all feeds into creating the skills needed to bring the experience of being a live wedding painter to you and your guests. I am always happy to chat and interact!
